Angela Ferreira, the woman who led the movement to legalize posthumous insemination in Portugal, gave birth to Guilherme after use cryopreserved sperm from her husband who died of cancer in 2019.

“Today our world has become more enlightened. Guilherme was born at 11:09 am with a weight of 3915 kg and a height of 50.5 cm. He is a healthy child. Thank you my love Hugo Neves Ferreira for choosing me for this dream!” Angela wrote last night in a post on her social media.

Angela Ferreira leads the fight in Portugal to legalize posthumous insemination after her husband Hugo died of cancer in 2019 and leaving in writing his desire for his wife to have a child with the sperm he had cryopreserved during his lifetime.

The story was revealed in 2020 in a documentary series on the Portuguese channel TVI and managed to mobilize over 100,000 people to sign the petition to debate the proposal in Parliament.

The norm allows a woman to be impregnated with the genetic material of her deceased partner. “in cases of explicit consent of the parent projects” and between six months and three years after death.

If the process ends with the birth of a child, considered the son of the deceased at the legal level.
