The new test was unique. Most of the tests are done on a horizontal row as opposed to a vertical row for Merlin engines. At this time, the engine is usually parallel to the ground. Adding a tilt angle allows you to additionally control the strength of various components.
The Raptor engine was created specifically for Starship. SpaceX has yet to successfully launch a Starship into orbit, but developers have already upgraded the Raptor twice. The newest variant is the Raptor 3.
