WhatsApp will soon introduce the ability to send high-resolution photos. Videos will follow at a later date.

Mark Zuckerberg himself announced the HD option for media files via Instagram. WABetaInfo also noticed it in the latest Android and iOS beta updates. In addition to the standard resolution, it will soon also be possible to send photos and videos in high resolution.

Send photos in HD

After updating WhatsApp, we already had access to the feature. This option appears in the edit menu before you can add the photo to a chat message. You can’t miss the button because it says “HD”. Photo must be large enough to support higher resolution. When you tap the button, WhatsApp will ask you again what quality you want to send the picture in. The photo then shows that it was sent in HD.

As a recipient, you can still choose to keep standard-quality photos if, for example, you’re using a slower internet connection. Also, keep in mind that HD media files are larger and therefore require more storage space. The more high-resolution photos and videos you download, the faster your memory will fill up. Users who have a device with limited storage should therefore stick with the standard quality.

The HD option for photos and videos will be available to everyone soon. Update the app to the latest version. The messaging app is experimenting with new features. Adding multiple accounts on one smartphone, support for passkeys, and “silent calling” in group chats are some of the new features in the pipeline.
