Lenovo: AI phones and computers coming next year

In a recent announcement, global technology giant Lenovo announced its results for the first quarter of fiscal 2023/24, showing a strong performance for this quarter with total revenue of 90.3 billion yuan and net profit of 1.33 billion yuan. The company’s CEO, Yang Yuanqing, took the opportunity to share his thoughts on the profound impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the technology landscape and highlighted future innovations in this field.

Yuanqing highlighted the key role of artificial intelligence in the evolution of smart devices, including the inevitable emergence of artificial intelligence phones and computers. According to him, the anticipated wave of artificial intelligence and generative computing (AIGC) will play an important role in expanding the frontiers of technological progress. He predicted that the market would witness the launch of AI-enabled phones and computers as early as next year.

Lenovo’s view of AI computers goes beyond the traditional, envisioning them as a combination of terminals, peripheral computing and cloud technologies. This hybrid approach is strategically designed to meet the demands of new AI workloads and shape the future of computing.

In particular, Yang Yuanqing’s statement coincides with the latest statements of Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. Gelsinger said Intel’s upcoming 14th Gen Meteor Lake Core processors are poised to usher in the era of AI-powered PCs. Industry sources suggest that Lenovo is expected to be at the forefront of this transition, possibly being the first to introduce the latest Intel-based AI computers.

In an internal letter released after the earnings announcement, Yang Yuanqing revealed ambitious plans for the future. Lenovo plans to invest more than 7 billion yuan over the next three years to accelerate the global deployment of AI technologies and applications. This significant investment underlines Lenovo’s commitment to harnessing the potential of AI and driving innovation across its product portfolio.

As Lenovo continues to push the boundaries of technology and transform the computing landscape, the convergence of artificial intelligence, smart devices and next-generation processors promises to open up new areas of opportunity. With its significant investments and pioneering vision, Lenovo looks set to lead the way in realizing the potential of AI-powered computing in the coming years. Source
