Warnock founded the company with Charles Geschke in San Jose in 1982 and served as chief executive officer until 2000 and as technical director until his retirement in 2001.
He also served as chairman of the board for nearly 30 years until 2017, often sharing that role with Geschke. Vornock remained on the company’s board of directors until his death. Geschke died in 2021 at the age of 81.
Prior to founding Adobe, Warnock was Chief Scientist at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center and held positions at Evans & Sutherland Computer, Computer Sciences Corp., IBM, and the University of Utah.
In 2009, US President Barack Obama awarded Geschke and Warnock the US National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
