According to sources provided by The Wall Street Journal, there’s a good chance Meta will release another web version of Threads this week. That would be pretty much the most requested functionality by users of the latest Instagram app.
When Threads launched on July 5th, it got off to a flying start but didn’t last that long. By the end of the same month, the usage numbers were already a lot less rosy. Fulfilling the wishes of many users should boost operations again.
Instagram boss Adam Mosseri mentioned the possibility of a web version as a comment in threads (where else), but didn’t give a deadline. Mosseri had just announced some new features in a previous post.
Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg also dismissed the possibility of a web version a few weeks ago, with a post in which he also said a decent search function is being worked on. Currently, users can only search by username.
The Instagram platform was launched as the main competitor to Elon Musk’s X (then Twitter). Threads doesn’t seem to be succeeding in this endeavor at the moment. As it stands, there’s only one person who can really fuck X up, and that’s Musk himself.
