The Somali government has suspended TikTok, Telegram and betting company 1XBET, alleging it is being used by terrorists and groups promoting immorality in the East African country.
The Ministry of Communications and Technology ordered ISPs to block apps on Monday. The decision was taken against the background of the intensification of the struggle against the jihadist group Al-Shabaab in the central region of the country. For the first time, the government has ordered the shutdown of certain programs in the name of counter-terrorism efforts.
Earlier this month, Senegal suspended TikTok for fears it was being used to incite violent protests. Kenyan lawmakers also announced an investigation was launched after receiving a petition calling for the social media platform to be banned as “inappropriate”. Source
