The function appeared under the name Microsoft Teams Play Together. Not only does it allow gamers to spend time browsing and playing games together, it also provides desktop screen streaming via Teams. In addition, players can easily join video calls to see their friends appear on the screen during the game. The company positions the integration as a way to spend time together, play and interact in a way similar to Discord in general.
However, the integration has several limitations so far. During testing, The Verge editor managed to launch a release of the game Shadow of the Tomb Raider. While the image quality was acceptable, the stream was largely running at 30 frames per second or less, which may not meet the gaming content requirements. It was also not possible to observe the video call participants visible above the video during testing. This feature probably still needs improvement.
While Microsoft Teams Play Together is a nice addition to some, it must be admitted that the service is definitely not a replacement for Discord at this stage.
