Colombian President Gustavo Petro visited his son Nicolás for the first time, for whom the country’s authorities are investigating alleged crimes of money laundering and illicit enrichment.

“Today I visited my son Nicholas. As a father, you will always have my support and love. As president, I have no hesitation in respecting the independence of the judiciary,” the president said on his profile on the X social network, formerly known as Twitter.

Thus, Petro indicated that he expected “a criminal case free from political aims and fully subject to due process of law and judicial decisions.”

Following this, Nicholas explained that the meeting was marked by family rather than political issues: “I want to inform you that my father visited me today, we met for a few minutes as a family (…) Not everything revolves around politics.”

Peter’s eldest son is on probation for the duration of the trial, unable to leave the country, in particular the city of Barranquilla, or participate in any political rally. (Europe Press).
