Greek firefighters find 27 burnt bodiespossibly migrants, in the Dadia Forest, in northeastern Greece and close to the Turkish border.
At the first moment burnt bodies of 18 people were found, and soon after, rescuers found a group of eight dead in the Dadia National Park, and a few hours before another body.
Yiannis Artopoyos, a spokesman for the fire department, said the bodies found were those of people who “probably entered the country illegally” after crossing the Evros River, which borders Turkey, and died in fires that started in recent hours.
The police activated the brigade recognized as victims and launched an investigation into the incident.
“A check carried out by firefighters in the area allowed them to find 18 bodies near the hut. Since no disappearances have been reported since yesterday, the possibility that they entered the country illegally is being investigated,” Artopoyos said of the discovery of the first 18 dead.
Hours earlier, another charred corpse was found near the area that was not identified and is now also suspected to be that of an irregular immigrant, bringing the number of bodies found today to 27.

In this place they were several cities evacuated due to the proximity of the flamescaused by high temperatures, drought and strong winds.
Artopios explained to the press that as of yesterday, text messages about the evacuation had been sent to mobile devices in the area, as well as cell phones from overseas networks.
Greece has at least eight major fires in different parts of the countrythe most serious is the one that began on Saturday near the Greek port city of Alexandroupolis.
Dadia is north of this port city, from where its main hospital was evacuated this morning due to the proximity of the flames.
