Launch of a new compact drone DJI Mini 3 close to confirming this is that leaks are starting to increase, something traditional when it comes to a new DJI product hitting the market. The Mini 3 is a special model because the Mini 2 is arguably the most successful drone in the world when it comes to sales, a model that manages to combine several important features such as compact size, good technology and competitive price. Naturally, DJI is paying special attention to the new Mini 3, which should bring some important changes over the current generation, such as obstacle sensors in at least three directions, a new camera, and possibly more flight autonomy.

Obstacle sensors and new gimbal are highlights

A different design from the current Mini, now with obstacle sensors.

The latest leaks come from a Twitter account. @DealsDrone, which if confirmed indicates that the drone will be very similar to the leaks from a few weeks ago, highlighting a significantly different design from current models in the Mini range, as well as several new features. In terms of design, at first you can see that the Mini 3 Pro is printed, although the full name is not shown, it will be at least a model of the line, perhaps a version that adds additional features such as the expected sensors. in at least three directions (front, bottom and rear), similar to competing models such as the Autel EVO Nano range. It can also be noted that the sensors required a lot of space in the small body structure of the drone, which on the other hand also raises doubts about this design.

Note that on the top of the drone, you can see the rear sensors directly above the front sensors, avoiding the need for a dedicated space for these sensors at the rear of the drone.

Gimbal with horizontal and vertical chamber

Another very curious design detail is the side protection of the gimbal and camera. It is worth noting that this is the most sensitive part of the drone and also the most expensive in terms of repair costs. Still bound to the stabilizer, please note that unlike other models such as the current Mini 2, the supposed suspension system of the Mini 3 is only stuck in one place, not on both sides as usual. This concept indicates that the camera can be either horizontal or vertical.. This feature was another piece of information that has already been leaked considering that the drone will support vertical photos and videos, which is very cool as it allows you to use the camera’s angular aperture and maximum resolution without having to crop part of the photos or videos if the idea is to to use images in vertical format.

A camera that should perform better in low light

As for the camera, the leaks indicate it could be an f/1.7 camera that can capture more light than the Mini 2’s f/2.8 camera. Naturally, the camera will be at least 4K, it may even support higher resolutions like other models, at least with a frame rate of 60FPS in 4K. In comparison, the Mini 2 has a 4K 30FPS camera at 100Mbps, which can also be upgraded to the new Mini 3, thereby improving the final video quality.

Continuation after commercial

A larger battery than the Mini 2 may indicate longer flight times.

2453mAh battery keeps the drone flying longer

Finally, some more data from this leak: a 2453 mAh battery, just over 200 mAh compared to the 2250 mAh battery of the Mini 2, which has a flight autonomy of 31 minutes, indicating that perhaps the new Mini 3 will be able to fly longer. more time than the Mini 2. It’s important to note here that the Mini 2 weighs 242 grams with battery, while the Mini 3 Pro weighs 249 grams, slightly more, but this may affect the final flight time. Even aerodynamics could be slightly compromised by the sensors that were added to the small body.

All an April Fool’s joke? May be!

Release date

Some leaks indicated that the launch could take place in April, which is about a month later. It’s worth noting that we had a gap of one year between the launch of Mavic Mini and Mini 2, which has already been exceeded by several months. Here at Mundo Conectado we cover a lot of stuff about drones, especially DJI models, so if you like this topic, stay tuned while we follow the news. There is still no leaked pricing data, which should only come closer to the official announcement.

For those who haven’t seen it yet, below are my reviews of the DJI Mini 2 drones, as well as the Mini SE, the last two models in the Mini line.
