An Intel document is circulating about X, from which it can be deduced that Windows 10 will not be compatible with the latest WLAN standard.

Although the roll out of WiFi 6 is still in full swing, WiFi 7 is just around the corner. The first Wi-Fi 7-compatible routers are expected to hit the market early next year. Therefore, hardware manufacturers must gradually start preparing their devices for the new WLAN standard and making them compatible. For Windows 10 users, this can sometimes be a setback.

A document has been leaked on X or Twitter, in case you don’t already know the new name, which appears to be from Intel. In addition to a whole range of technical terms, the document also lists which operating systems are compatible with WiFi 7. Windows 11 makes the list, but Windows 10 doesn’t.

The right drive(s)

Take the salt shaker with you, as neither Intel nor Microsoft has confirmed this. Nevertheless, we are already trying to look for a possible explanation. According to the leaker in question, Windows 10 does not have the correct drivers to support WiFi 7. In addition, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 in two years, although that is more than a year before WiFi 7 is released.

What would Windows 10 users miss without Wi-Fi 7? A new standard always means higher speeds and WiFi 7 reaches (theoretical) speeds of 46 Gbit/s. Another useful trick to improve stability is Multi-Link operation.

With this technique, data packets can be distributed over different frequency bands in order to prevent a band from being overcrowded. You can read a comprehensive overview of all WLAN standards from one to seven in this article.
