As reported by Ukrinform, CNN Turk reports.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, “I see this project as a symbol of the progress Turkey has made in air transportation, especially in the last 20 years.” said.
The new airport has an area of 3 million square meters. The closed part is 47 thousand m2.
The 45 m wide and 3 km long runway was built on an artificial barrier in the Black Sea. This is done taking into account the characteristics of the terrain in the area.
Rize-Artvin Airport is expected to serve approximately 3 million passengers annually.
Since the area where the airport is built is the main tea producer in the country, the entrance of the building resembles a tea leaf.
The control tower is made in the shape of a traditional Turkish tea cup. There is also a museum of this drink at the airport.
