Sony released PlayStation Portal, formerly known as Project Q, after first announcing its remote gaming device plans in May. The device is essentially a portable extension of your PlayStation 5 as it cannot play games natively. You can find more detailed information below.
PlayStation Portal is essentially a glorified remote gaming machine. Sony had previously confirmed that the device will use Wi-Fi to stream games from the PS5 console. Yes, that means you need a PS5 to play games on PlayStation Portal. As long as your PS5 Wi-Fi connection and your gaming Wi-Fi are stable, you should not have any problems playing games on your PDA.
Since Bluetooth is not available on the portal, you will not be able to use any off-the-shelf wired headset/headset with it. That being said, there are several solutions for audio. First of all, it has a 3.5mm audio jack so you can use wired headphones. Another audio solution is dual built-in speakers. The third option is Sony’s new hardware using the new PlayStation Link connection standard. These are the Pulse Elite headphones and the Pulse Explorer wireless headphones.
In terms of specs, Portal has an 8-inch LCD that can stream games at 1080p 60 FPS. The built-in controller is actually a Sony DualSense with all its features such as haptic feedback. It uses a USB-C port for charging and has a 3.5mm audio jack as mentioned above. Details regarding the processor and battery are still kept secret.
No release date or pre-order date has been announced at this time, but the console will cost $199 each time it launches.
