In Sweden, the Social Democratic Party decided to support the country’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance. This was reported by the public in reference to the party’s statement.
“The Social Democratic Party Council decided to work on Sweden’s application for NATO membership at its meeting on May 15, 2022.“, – is said in the message.
At the same time, the political force expressed its reservations about the permanent deployment of non-NATO and nuclear weapons in Sweden.
“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine worsened the security situation for Sweden and Europe as a whole“- commented on the decision of Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö had previously announced his application for NATO membership. He emphasized that such a decision was taken not against anyone, but to strengthen the security of the country. NATO also said it could identify Russia as a threat. The decision was made in the Alliance’s Strategic Plan, which will be adopted at the Madrid Summit in June. Source
