Google cloud

Google is introducing three new storage solutions in its cloud offering. All three must support AI applications in a cost-effective manner.

Google is adding three new storage solutions to Google Cloud Platform. All three were built with AI workloads in mind. In addition, Google points out that they are inexpensive. It’s about:

  • parallel store
  • Cloud Storage Backup
  • Google Cloud NetApp Volumes

Parallelstore is a parallel file system for demanding AI and HPC workloads running on accelerators. Memory is able to saturate the hungry (and expensive) GPUs, so memory doesn’t become the bottleneck. High I/O and low latency are therefore key. This solution is available as a private preview.

File system and Netapp

Cloud Storage FUSE is intended for AI applications that require file system semantics. The solutions allow customers to add their Google Cloud Storage buckets as a local file system. This makes it easier for apps to handle the data. The solution is available immediately.

Finally, as the name suggests, Google Cloud NetApp Volumes is for users running their applications on NetApp storage arrays. With the solution, Google enables them to migrate their applications to the cloud without having to tinker too much with the code. This capacity is also available immediately.
