Although the new electric car was unveiled on Friday, August 25, the company said it will reveal details of the EV5 during Kia’s EV Day event in October.
The EV5 will be the first private electric vehicle model to be produced at Kia’s factory in Yancheng, China.
The SUV will also be available in other markets.
The company announced that Kia aims to increase sales in the world’s largest auto market with the launch of electric car models at a time when electrification in the automotive industry is accelerating.
It is stated that the EV5 was developed in line with Kia’s new design philosophy “Combined Opposites”.
In total, Kia has eight factories in South Korea and six factories abroad; two in China and one each in the USA, Slovakia, Mexico and India. Their total annual production is 3.84 million pieces.
In China, Kia has been struggling with weak sales due to the lack of electric vehicle models and the continuing impact of the diplomatic dispute between Seoul and Beijing over the US deployment of the missile defense system in South Korea in 2017.
