AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT and Radeon RX 7800 XT: design, performance and everything you need to know

Its launch is expected in a few hours, but thanks to a leak from AMD, we already know the final design of the Radeon RX 7700 XT and Radeon RX 7800 XT, and it’s quite curious because eventually both will have dual fan cooling system. The first rumors and leaks pointed to a triple fan design in the Radeon RX 7800 XT.

In the leak, we can also see that both graphics cards keep the same design that we saw in the reference Radeon RX 7000 and that they closely resemble the Radeon RX 7600, although in the Radeon RX 7700 XT and Radeon RX 7800 XT the chassis is longer and the cooler is bigger, which means they have a longer length. This is clearly visible in the center space (between the fans) and in the space just behind the fan on the left.

Overall, these two graphics cards can be expected to occupy two expansion slots and use two power connectors. The most normal would be what the Radeon RX 7700 XT had one 6-pin and one 8-pin connectorand which the Radeon RX 7800 XT uses two 8-pin connectors, but it’s not confirmed yet. The images were published on AMD’s official website, so they are official.

Radeon RX 7700 XT and Radeon RX 7800 XT

Radeon RX 7700 XT specifications

  • Graphics core Navi 32 in 5nm.
  • Three chiplets with 48 MB of infinite cache in 6 nm.
  • 54 computing units.
  • 3456 shaders at 2171MHz-2544MHz.
  • 216 texturing units.
  • 128 raster units.
  • 54 second generation cores to accelerate ray tracing.
  • 108 AI acceleration units
  • 192-bit bus.
  • 12 GB of graphics memory at 18 GHz (432 GB/s bandwidth).
  • 35.16 TFLOPs performance in FP32.
  • 245W TBP. You will need two additional 8-pin power connectors.

This will be a graphics card designed mainly for 1440p gaming, and everything seems to indicate that it will compete with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, although its raw performance could be higher. Its price should be around 500 dollars, approximately.

AMD Radeon RX 7800XT

Radeon RX 7800 XT specifications

  • Navi 32 GPU in 5nm.
  • Four 6nm L3 cache chiplets, total 64MB.
  • 60 computing units.
  • 3840 shaders at 2124MHz-2430MHz, normal and turbo mode.
  • 240 texturing units.
  • 128 raster units.
  • 120 units to speed up the AI.
  • 60 second generation units to accelerate ray tracing.
  • 256-bit bus.
  • Performance in FP32: 37.32 TFLOPs.
  • 16 GB GDDR6 19.5 GHz memory (624 GB/s bandwidth).
  • 263W TBP. You will need two additional 8-pin power connectors.

Their specs have been confirmed by PowerColor, so they’re official. It will be a graphics card capable of moving games in 4K, although due to the infinite cache, its optimal level will be 1440p. It is expected to be a direct competitor to the GeForce RTX 4070 and its price will be around 600 dollars.

Appeared while writing this article new official information which allowed us to clarify some important details, as well as verify the final specifications, which you can find a little above, and take a look at the official performance figures.

It has been confirmed that the Radeon RX 7700 XT will not have a reference design, so this one will be left entirely in the hands of the assemblers, and only the Radeon RX 7800 XT will arrive with the dual-fan design we’ve seen. The truth is that the specifications of the Radeon RX 7700 XT are very good and very close to its big brother, although its lower bandwidth and cache reduction have a significant impact on performance.

Radeon RX 7700 XT and Radeon RX 7800 XT performance

According to data shared by AMD, the Radeon RX 7800 XT up to 3.5% faster than GeForce RTX 4070 NVIDIA 12GB at 1440p and Radeon RX 7700 XT is 12% faster in games than GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB.

The most interesting thing about this comparison is that according to AMD, the graphics card compensates for ray tracing on the NVIDIA solution in games like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and beats it by 1% in Dying Light 2 with active ray tracing.

Interesting, no doubt. I already told you this in my Radeon RX 7900 XTX review AMD has significantly improved performance in ray tracing with the RDNA3 architecture, although I was still one step behind Ada Lovelace, and I could confirm this with the GeForce RTX 4060, as the Radeon RX 7600 clearly outperforms it.

It will be interesting to see what the Radeon RX 7700 XT and Radeon RX 7800 XT are really capable of in in-depth unbiased benchmark tests. for now We don’t have a final price or release datebut I will update this article once we have that information.
