Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan News4JAX that the man had barricaded himself at the Dollar General Hotel, located at Kings Road and Canal Street.
Jacksonville council member Ju’Kobi Pittman, who called the shooting a tragedy, said she knew the suspect was shot dead.

“People in this community are suffering. It doesn’t make any sense. I’m very, very angry,” Pittman told reporters at the scene of the attack.
Jacksonville police sent a helicopter and a Special Intervention Team (SWAT) to the area to the scene of the shooting.
