Asus, a well-known name in the computer and smartphone world, attracted attention with its unexpected organizational structure. Despite the promise of no layoffs, the company continued to reduce its workforce in various departments. This has led to confusion and speculation about the company’s strategic motivations, employee implications and trajectories.
Asus’ organizational restructuring leads to layoffs
In June, Asus announced the upcoming organizational restructuring by issuing an internal letter to its employees. The company reduced the number of workers in its computer division in July, despite reassuring its employees that there would be no job losses. This affected workers in both Taiwan and Suzhou, China. But the company’s downsizing efforts haven’t stopped.
Recently, someone familiar with the situation said that various parts of the commercial department were informed of the significant cuts that would affect groups such as engineering and purchasing and cut the workforce by 50%.
Asus first announced its plans to move its commercial computing team to the mobile division. However, those familiar with the matter stressed that some employees who recently joined the mobile phone division are still being laid off.
The company said it will try to recruit internal employees for vacancies. However, the report states that HR is not actively pursuing this issue, instead expecting employees to find suitable internal positions on their own.
The reasons for the dismissal of employees who were integrated into the mobile phone division and subsequently fired were also revealed by the insider. Asus mobile phones, as you know, are divided into ROG and Zenfone series. However, the latest Zenfone 10 model is expected to be the last generation of this series. So in the future, the Zenfone team will either integrate with other departments or merge directly with the ROG team. The current layoffs in Asus’ commercial division are expected to continue until next month.
