The presentation of DLSS 3.5 this week is further confirmation of this We live in very interesting times in terms of technologies that allow us to improve image quality games without having to use brute force. And thanks to them, graphics cards of more or less recent generations can provide their users with a better experience, without investing in the purchase of a superior model, without additional costs, which would mean consumption, etc.
I’m talking about these technologies in general because, as I said, DLSS 3.5 was presented this week, but the fact is that the imminent arrival of the first titles with FSR 3 and its long-awaited Fluid Motion technology is also confirmed, in a presentation in which it was also announced , that AMD Hyper-RX will bring FSR 3 to virtually all DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 titles out of the box. And for its part, Intel released XeSS 1.2 just two weeks ago.
so yeah August was the month chosen by three technology companies, AMD, Intel and NVIDIA, with announcements related to their upscaling technologies and more, we’ll soon start seeing (and more importantly, enjoying) the improvements that come with them. And if there is a game that has become a reference for this and for which the coming month of September will be very important, then it is Cyberpunk 2077. A game that, after a rather disappointing debut, has become a reference (like a good one) in the field. And I say September is crucial for CDPR’s title, as it’s the month chosen for both the launch of its 2.0 update and the expected Phantom Liberty DLC.
NVIDIA has used Cyberpunk 2077 on more than one occasion when he wanted to show the result of the application of his technologies ray tracing, rescaling and recently AI frame generation, and it is evident that it is a great choice for several reasons, which we can mainly summarize in two: the technical requirement of the game for the highest levels of image quality and the unquestionable aesthetic the appeal of the CD Projekt RED title.
Well, in this video we can see the effects of using DLSS 3.1, DLSS 3.5 and DLSS 3.5 with automatic frame generation in Cyberpunk 2077 in comparison. And this split-screen comparison, which shows similar content with different settings, is particularly interesting because it allows us to check the different improvements that are obtained depending on the mode we use. In other words, it allows us to verify evolution, which is notorious.
So as you can see frame rate hardly changes between DLSS 3.1 and DLSS 3.5, but the picture quality makes it noticeablewhile the comparison between DLSS 3.5 without and with frame generation we see how the number of frames actually increases, but that this does not translate into a reduction in image quality. So the cumulative one is undoubtedly the most interesting if we compare DLSS 3.1 with DLSS 3.5 FG, as it gives us a measure of the huge jump in quality that the latest iteration of DLSS will offer when it reaches users.
