AMD launches two classic mid-range graphics cards: the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700XT.

AMD launches the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT and AMD Radeon RX 7700XT. Both cards are desktop-tailored GPUs. AMD hopes that the hardware will primarily appeal to customers for whom budget is an issue. The RX7900 XT has a recommended retail price of 499 US dollars, the RX 7700 XT is the slightly smaller brother and therefore costs a little less at 449 US dollars.

GPU CUs GDDR6 clock frequency boost frequency interface cache TDP Price
RX7800XT 60 16 GIGABYTES 2.124MHz Up to 2430MHz 256 bits 64MB 263W $499
RX7700XT 54 12GB 2.171MHz Up to 2544MHz 192 bits 48MB 245W $449

AMD is primarily targeting gamers with the GPUs and is aiming for a resolution of 1,440p. 4K is therefore a bit too ambitious for these cards. Thanks to 16 GB or 12 GB GDDR6 memory, these GPUs can also be used for professional purposes. However, for truly professional use, the Radeon Pro W series is better suited.

Otherwise, these graphics cards are built as you would expect. AMD builds them on top of the RDNA 3 architecture, which also supports other GPUs and integrates Infinity Cache, which should offer a head start over traditional cache implementations.

The GPU still has a few tricks that are relevant for media. For example, an AI sauce ensures that text is sharper when streaming at a low bitrate. For UHD encode/decode, AMD offers full AV1 support.

The European prices are not known to us at the moment. From September 6th, however, the GPU should be on shelves worldwide.
