Provider Digi is expected to launch its own antennas as early as 2024 via the Proximus network

The new Belgian telecom operator Digi turns out to be a kind of virtual operator in the Proximus network. In this way, the provider can already offer services while their own physical network is still under construction.

Digi has signed a contract with Proximus for the use of its telecommunications network. For example, Digi wants to offer its first services for business and private customers in 2024. This actually happens when Mobile virtual network operator (MVNO).

Digi Belgium was founded last year when the Romanian Digi, in cooperation with Citymesh, acquired the necessary spectrum rights to become the fourth telecom operator in our country. As a result of the joint venture between the two, there will be a mobile offering for private individuals under the Digi name and a targeted offering for the business market under the Citymesh name.

own network

The new provider has the necessary spectrum to set up its own physical network across the country. There is therefore no intention of acting as an MVNO in the Proximus network forever, but setting up your own infrastructure with sufficient coverage will probably take several years. Thanks to the agreement with Proximus, Digi can start selling its own connectivity solutions much faster.

Digi will continue to focus on developing its own network. To this end, the provider is already taking over more than four hundred antenna locations from Proximus. It is said that this acquisition will significantly accelerate the establishment of a national network.

More competition

What Digi’s offering will look like remains a mystery for now. According to the future provider, the future provider wants to continue to make a strong mark on the market with a competitive offer. We previously wrote that a landline internet service is also being planned. From a political point of view, the intention was already to make room for a fourth player as a catalyst for hopefully higher prices on the market.
