Any content creator who posts on YouTube will get chills when they read the word strike. For those who don’t know what that means, yes the type of penalty that the platform imposes on those creators who upload a video whose content violates the rules of the service. Unlike other warnings, which remain just a warning, YouTube penalties are permanent, that is, they remain in the history of the account and its owner for life.

That alone is annoying, but it’s even worse when you consider it Reaching three strikes inevitably results in a permanent suspension of the channel and the user. In other words, if you commit three offenses and get punished for them, you will no longer be able to post content on YouTube. This is not a big deal for casual users as well as those who create accounts that they know will be quickly deleted by the platform, but it is for professional creators.

This is even worse if the offense is committed by mistake or accident.and it’s that YouTube’s accusation system is usually quite immune to any appeal in this regard. And this is partly understandable, given the monstrous amount of videos that are published on the platform daily, but it is also a problem for the platform and its creators, because in many cases it leads to sanctions that are very unfair.

The good news in this regard is that Google was aware of this problem and in response to it, as we can read on the platform’s official blog, YouTube will offer courses that will lead to strike cancellations. In other words, we are encountering a model similar to the one that exists in Spain for obtaining points for driving licenses, only in the case of YouTube, the training will focus specifically on those rules that the penalized persons have violated.

According to data from the platform itself «Over 80% of authors who receive a warning never violate our policies again“But these people with the current model are drawing penalties for their entire lives on YouTube, which the company now intends to address. This is stated in that post.

  • Creators who do not avoid the same policy violation for 90 days will have their channel warning removed.
  • Creators who violate the same policy before reaching 90 days will have their video removed and a warning imposed on their channel.
  • If the creator violates the same policy after 90 days, we will remove the video and issue another warning. The creator will have the opportunity to complete a new training course.

This measure will undoubtedly be very well received by content creators. But of course it is also in the interest of YouTube itself, because it significantly reduces the risk of losing creators due to unfair sanctions. So we seem to be facing a win-win arrangement for all partiessomething that is unfortunately not very common and therefore must be celebrated.
