The Indian lunar rover “Pragyan”, delivered to the Earth’s satellite by the landing craft of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, reported information confirming the presence of sulfur in the soil near the Moon’s south pole.

As reported by Ukrinform, on this H (formerly Twitter), reports the Indian Space Research Organization (ISPRO).

“The Laser Induced Fragmentation Spectroscope (LIBS) on the lunar rover definitively confirmed the presence of sulfur on the lunar surface near the south pole, with the first in situ measurements,” the post said.

ISPRO added that aluminum, calcium, iron, chromium, titanium, manganese, silicon and oxygen were found on the surface of the satellite, as expected.

As Ukrinform reported, on August 23, India became the fourth country to successfully land the Chandrayaan-3 mission on the Moon.

The mission has landed near the Moon’s south pole and will survey its surroundings for approximately one lunar day (about 14 Earth days).

On Monday, August 28, the landing module of the Indian lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 transmitted to Earth the first survey data collected on the surface of the Earth satellite. Indian scientists for the first time received data on the temperature section of the south pole of the Moon’s surface.
