GIGABYTE wants to raise the bar for its hard drives with the AORUS Gen5 12000 SSD, a lightning-fast internal storage solution that harnesses the power of the interface. PCIe 5.0.

The Taiwanese manufacturer already entered the segment a few months ago with the AORUS Gen5, but it wants more, more performance. The unit uses the format M.2-2280 which becomes the main and almost unique SSD for its great advantages due to its compact size that allows its installation on both desktops and laptops.

The AORUS Gen5 12000 SSD contains 232-layer memory 3D-TLC NAND Flash and built-in LPDDR4 cache design. It is equipped with an 8-channel Phison PS5026-E26 pro controller stratospheric data transmissions higher than 12 GB/s in sequential read mode and more than 11 GB/s in write mode.

To solve the problem of temperature, which is very high for these small units with such high performance, the unit is equipped with Thermal Guard Extreme thermal solution with layers of aluminum and carbon, which the company already uses to cool the chipsets. from their most advanced motherboards. Users will be able to optionally choose to use heatsinks, which are usually included in modern motherboards.

GIGABYTE promises you’ll be able to keep the temperature under control to get the most out of your drive. The manufacturer will include the free GCC (GIGABYTE CONTROL CENTER) application, a unified software that monitors the operation of the unit in real time, its status, performance, temperature or capacity, in addition to the possibility of updating the firmware.

The unit will be sold in two versions depending on storage capacity, 1 and 2 TBand with a five-year warranty. No retail price was provided, though the Gen5s that have arrived so far are essentially the same as the Gen4. Prices can be expected to go down when the big manufacturers (WD, Samsung, Kingston and Kioxia) release their PCIe 5.0 versions.
