The US said on Tuesday that it “deeply concerned” by the actions of those who keep trying “undermine” democracy in Guatemala and expressed his desire to work with the President-elect, Bernardo Arevalo de Leon.

The US government made this statement after two important events took place in Guatemala the day before: the ratification by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of the victory of the progressive party Arevalo de León in the elections on August 20 and, at the same time, the suspension of his political party, the Movement of Seeds.

However, on the same day in the Register of Citizens of the TGE decided to “temporarily” suspend the formation of an elected president obeying the Judge’s order of 12 July, a decision that Arévalo de León called “an illegal ruling in connection with a prosecution led by the Ministry of State (Prosecution)”.

The condemnation of the US adds to that which the European Union (EU), the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and other governments of the world have already voiced in recent hours. like in Mexico.
