Cisco and Nutanix join forces to propel enterprises into hybrid multicloud. Cisco provides the infrastructure, Nutanix provides its cloud platform.

The collaboration will be announced with a press release. In their own words, Cisco and Nutanix want to bring the “most complete hybrid multicloud offering” to the market. Cisco computing and network infrastructure will be integrated into Nutanix’s vendor-agnostic cloud platform. Both companies aim to launch their offerings, which will be marketed under the Cisco brand name, within 90 days.

Hybrid multicloud is a key focus for Nutanix, as we’ve learned from previous discussions with the company. Enterprises are looking to hybrid multicloud with interest to escape the lock-in practices of major cloud providers. CEO Rajiv Ramaswami recently made Nutanix’s position in the cloud market very clear to us: “Putting everything in a cloud is neither desirable nor possible.”

order in chaos

The biggest problem companies face in a hybrid multi-cloud environment is complexity. Data is distributed across one or more cloud platforms and on-premise servers. Soon you will be faced with silos again. With its provider-independent cloud platform, Nutanix wants to bring order to chaos and thus unify the management of the various hybrid cloud components.

Cisco is responsible for the hardware side of the story. The Nutanix cloud platform now runs smoothly on Cisco’s UCS servers. Cisco also ensures a smooth network connection between these servers and the security of this connection, an area in which the company wants to position itself more and more prominently.
