Republican attorneys general from 16 US states have filed a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). this audit into the supply chain of a Chinese fast fashion company Shein for the use of forced laborbefore its eventual accession to the stock market.

As tensions escalate between Washington and Beijing, a letter sent to the SEC last week increased pressure on Shein, at a time when most of the anti-Chinese critics in Congress are attacking Chinese companies that they are inconsistent with the goals of US foreign policy.

Shein, a company that sells dresses for about $7 and home goods for $5 in more than 150 countriesmoved its headquarters to Singapore, but manufactures most of its products in China.

The letter calls on the SEC to ensure that the Chinese company and other foreign companies are listed on US stock exchanges. verify through independent audits that they comply with the laws which prohibit imports made using any form of forced labor.

“We do not tolerate forced labor and do not contract with manufacturers in the Xinjiang region. We will continue to work with US federal and state authorities to answer their questions,” Shane’s spokesman said.

Shein declined to comment on this information. plans for the American stock market.

In July, Reuters reported that Shein had worked with at least three investment banks on the project.possible US initial public offering and negotiated with the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq, citing people familiar with the matter.

The Chinese company managed to quickly expand in the US. despite concerns about his labor practices and sustainability. To speed up shipments and meet growing demand in the US, Shane opened a warehouse in Indiana in 2022.
