This Wednesday, a US court sentenced the Mexican to 12 years in prison. Victor Hugo Hinojosa-Elizondo, alias “Margoro Hinojosa”, for smuggling drugs from Mexico into the US.

The Justice Department said in a statement that, according to court documents, between 2016 and 2018, the now convicted ran a drug trafficking organization in Sinaloa is responsible for distributing to several American cities such as Los Angeles or Norfolk about 40 pounds (about 18 kilograms) of high-purity methamphetamine produced in Mexico.

This organization was responsible for the production and distribution of this drug.

Hinojosa, 55, and another conspirator, Luis Enrique Soto Ferro, 47, were extradited from Mexico to the US last year. Soto Ferro was sentenced to 15 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and for leading the aforementioned organization.

In December 2022, he was arrested and extradited to the United States.

Mexican accused in US of laundering $7 million and working with CJNG

On the other hand, in May last year, US authorities accused another Mexican, Francisco Asiain Bahena, of collaborating with Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) to smuggle large quantities of drugs into the United States and launder almost $7 million from this activity through cryptocurrency.
