A few weeks ago, we discovered that WhatsApp is preparing an email verification which is not very clear to use. The system was not functional at the time as it was under development. Now as much as we can verify our email accountit is almost useless nowadays, but it helps us to know the state of the function and what it will be used for.
Since we first saw email verification in WhatsApp, the text added to the window has changed and it is now clear that the email is correct. will be used as another way to access your account. Seems like a good step up from WhatsApp usernames and accounts that aren’t based on phone numbers.
This is my email, WhatsApp
As of today, the only way to log into WhatsApp is to verify your phone number, either via SMS or by calling the code you received. Again, Meta is preparing all kinds of alternatives For signing in, including using email, password keys, and even other apps like Instagram or Messenger.
WhatsApp is working on all these alternative entries simultaneously, and we pushed them into beta and followed their progress. Some still don’t work, like toggle switches, but Imail verification is functional.
That is, after entering our e-mail, we receive the verification code by mail. A numeric code when re-entering WhatsApp mark our email as verified. This has nothing to do with verifications like companies do, but when registering, the email needs to be added to our account, just like the phone number is verified.
AND what happens when email is verified in whatsapp?? Absolutely nothing for now, because the only way to log in to the mobile is still by phone number, and we have not found a way to force other modes.
However, the changes made in the text in this window also attract attention. When we first saw it in early August it said “your email is used to protect and verify your account”, but now it says “Email is just another way to access your account”. The last statement is also important: “Your contacts can’t see it“.
So it confirms that we can sign in via email instead of phone, as an additional option. This way, if we lose or change our phone number, we will still have another way to log in.
