We already knew Philips Hue from the smart lighting for indoors and outdoors, but from today the brand also offers security cameras. Manufacturer Signify announces a new product line with Philips Hue Secure. At launch it consists of smart cameras, contact sensors and a brand new security center for the app.
First, let’s look at the cameras. You can choose between cameras with or without cable, in black or white. You attach the cameras to the mounting plate with a magnet. Both models are water resistant for outdoor use. According to The Verge, the wireless model does not have a removable battery and only needs to be charged after four months.
The camera records images in 1080p HD quality. Recordings can be viewed again with a cloud subscription as the camera has no local storage. The images can be stored for thirty (3.99 euros per month and camera) to a maximum of sixty days (9.99 euros per month and camera). Rest assured that live streams and recordings are secured with end-to-end encryption.
Scare off with light
The cameras work in combination with the Philips Hue app. Every time a camera detects motion, you’ll get a notification on your phone, and the camera should be able to distinguish between people and animals. Unexpected visit. Use the talkback feature to ask what your visitor is up to, or connect the camera to your smart lights to blink to deter intruders.
The searchlight makes light its main weapon of defense. View the parking lot or driveway of your office building and flash a bright light in a color of your choice, from bright light to dark red. A slightly more subtle solution is the motion sensor, which can be attached to doors, windows or closets and show you a notification when they are opened.

The Philips Hue app will soon have a brand new Security Center to manage security systems. When you get a notification, you can tap it to open the app. You can then manually activate an alarm that will flash your lights, set off the audible alarm on your Secure camera, or call local authorities or a trusted contact.
You can also personalize your Philips Hue Secure camera settings in the app. Create blackout zones that make certain parts of the video feed private, or activity zones that turn off notifications for specific zones. You can easily arm and disarm the system, set alarms or view a timeline of events, and more.
The surveillance cameras are available from autumn from EUR 199.99 with cable and EUR 249.99 without cable. A safety sensor costs EUR 39.99 or EUR 69.99 for two. The headlight with camera will follow in early 2024 for EUR 349.99. The prices include VAT.
