Russia uses fake websites to obtain personal data of Ukrainian soldiers and their family members.
Ukrinform reported that Voice of America reported this, citing representatives of the US Department of Defense.
According to the US agency, the Russian information warfare unit has created at least two phishing sites, WarTears.org and Foreign Warriors.ru, which appear to be support sites for friends and relatives of missing, captured or deceased Ukrainian soldiers.
For example, WarTears.org claims their database contains information on more than 170,000 Ukrainian military personnel.
Petro Yatsenko, representative of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of POWs, confirmed that these sites are fake. According to him, there are dozens of similar phishing sites to collect personal data of military family members.
“Relatives hope that their loved ones are not dead, but in captivity, and therefore they give their personal data,” Yatsenko said. said.
Pentagon officials suspect that Russia is using the names, phone numbers and addresses of Ukrainians obtained through criminal websites to determine whether any of the soldiers or their relatives live in the occupied territory. According to the US Department of Defense, these individuals can be detained and deported.
As Ukrinform reported, Russian hackers attempted to steal classified information from the battlefield by attacking the mobile devices of Ukrainian soldiers.
