GIGABYTE G6, the versatile back-to-school laptop

At CES, GIGABYTE presented a great refresh of its AORUS and AERO notebook portfolio. We had the opportunity to thoroughly analyze one of the most advanced models, the AORUS 17X, and we liked it very much for its enormous performance, build quality and workmanship, connectivity and adjusted weight for a laptop that can replace desktop machines with guarantees. . It later announced the AORUS 16 with similar features.

Now the Taiwanese firm announces the launch of the GIGABYTE G6, a variant of the AORUS with slightly reduced features and also the price, “designed specifically for students and casual gamers anticipating the back-to-school season”. Weighing just 2.3kg, its appearance is more sober than that of the gaming company’s large laptops, a testament to its versatility in a wider range of usage scenarios.

A screen is attached to the laptop 16 inches, the diagonal chosen by all manufacturers to improve the display capacity compared to standard 15-inch models, but without increasing the chassis size. Its resolution is FHD+ with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and its maximum refresh rate is 165 Hz. The panel is certified by TÜV Rheinland against blue light and anti-flicker technology and includes an AI Eyecare function that enables automatic brightness adjustment based on the light source in the environment.

GIGABYTE offers several choices of dual-generation Intel processors, from Alder Lake to a Core i7 Raptor Lake. It packs DDR5 memory and dual SSD PCIe Gen 4 storage. And it’s also gameable, thanks to the dedicated cards it can fit up to RTX 4060 and cooling system WINDFORCE Infinity to ensure optimal performance when operating the heaviest workloads.

The keyboard has a 15-color backlight and a maximum key stroke of 2.0 mm. It features a numeric keypad dedicated to programming and documentation tasks, confirming its versatility as a do-it-all laptop, while its touchpad has been enlarged to support Windows Precision multi-touch gestures.

Its connectivity is as complete as its older brothers, with Thunderbolt 4 ports, USB 3.2, HDMI output, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Connectivity is completed by a FHD 1080p webcam with IR for Windows Hello authentication and security. It should be available on the international channel soon with Windows 11 pre-installed. The price was not mentioned, but it should be cheaper than the gaming AORUS.
