The Office of the President of Ukraine described Elon Musk’s behavior promoting the spread of Russian propaganda as “Herostratus’ glory.”
on the social network H (former Twitter), wrote Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Presidential Office, according to Ukrinform.
“Ilona Musk, being wide-open to primitive Russian propagandists and Russian poison bots/farms is in no way related to freedom of expression, anti-establishment and right-wing conservative rhetoric. How naive… It’s all about complicity in the breaking of global rules, social regression, promoting bloodthirsty appetites with a caricature of the “homo soveticus” empire. Why do you so clearly desire the glory of Herostratus in the post-information age?” Podoliac remarked.
As reported, the European Commission conducted a study showing that Elon Musk’s platform X (formerly Twitter) played an important role in helping Russia’s propaganda about Ukraine reach more people than before the war.
The study showed that despite the voluntary efforts of the largest social networks against Russian propaganda, Russian disinformation against Ukraine is increasing.
EC experts said that, according to the preliminary analysis of the research, the reach and influence of Kremlin-supported accounts increased, especially in the first half of 2023, due to the deterioration of Twitter’s security standards.
Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, previously met with Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter owner Elon Musk, who bought the social network last year.
Most of the attention has been focused on Twitter because Twitter’s new owner has changed many rules regarding content regulation, notably in violation of the new EU rules.
