American company SpaceX broke its own flight speed record by launching a group of 13 military satellites for the US Space Force into orbit after a two-day delay.
According to Ukrinform’s report, this was reported by Space.com.
The Space Force’s Space Research Agency (SDA) Falcon-9 rocket carrying 13 satellites took off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on Saturday. After that, the first stage booster returned to the airbase. It was the launch vehicle’s 13th flight.
“This launch marks SpaceX’s 61st launch in 2023, breaking last year’s annual record with four months to go,” said SpaceX Avionics Reliability Engineer Zachary Luppen.
Luppen said SpaceX initially attempted to launch the Tranche 0 mission on August 31, but was delayed due to an unexpected response from one of the nine engines on Falcon-9’s first stage. He added that the second attempt on September 1 was also canceled about 12 minutes before takeoff due to a problem with a valve in the ground equipment.
This is SpaceX’s second mission in support of the Extended Warrior Space Architecture (PWSA) project to create a demonstration constellation of 28 satellites that will provide global military communications and missile warning, display and tracking capabilities.
As Ukrinform reported, on Friday, September 1, the American company SpaceX launched a new batch of 22 Starlink internet satellites into orbit.
