In a statement, IAPA President Michael Greenspon daily newspaper New York Times, announced the hiring of Lauria, who replace journalist Ricardo Trotti as who has over 30 years of experience with the organization and has been its Executive Director since January 2015.
Lauria, who joined on September 1, He will assume executive leadership at the IAPA General Assembly in November. For his part, Trotti will continue his work in the company until December 31.

Lauria is of Argentine descent and lives in New Jersey, has over 30 years of experience as a journalist and has devoted the last 20 years to defending freedom of expression. He has provided strategic advice to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), UNESCO, the Pan American Development Fund, Global Press and Columbia University’s Tow Center for Digital Journalism.
From 2017 to 2021, he led the Free Speech Portfolio at the Foundation Independent journalism program of the London-based Open Society Foundation. He previously directed CPJ’s US program for 15 years, from 2002 to 2017, where he was also program director.
Lauria has led high-level initiatives and campaigns in Latin America. He is the author of reports and studies on freedom of expression and the press. He has built strong relationships with international, regional and local human rights and freedom of expression groups, intergovernmental organizations and donors.
He has also been called as an expert witness at congressional hearings and international conferences. In 1994, he settled in New York as Chief US Correspondent for Editorial Perfil magazine. Until 2020, he was a member of the jury for the Maria Moores Cabot Award., operated by the Columbia University School of Journalism. He graduated in journalism from the Catholic University of Argentina.
