The long-awaited Windows 11 23H2 update is coming soon and Microsoft has released its best features to testers on its beta channel.
From a revolutionary AI assistant to a streamlined File Explorer and detailed power consumption report, the update promises many improvements. Here is a breakdown of the three main features that caught our eye.
Taking a step forward in artificial intelligence integration, Windows 11 will launch Windows Copilot, an artificial intelligence assistant that integrates Bing Chat and additional plugins. Easily accessible via the sidebar on the taskbar, Copilot aims to change the way users interact with their computers.
This assistant is designed from the comfort of their desktop computer to guide users through various tasks, answer questions and even assist with travel planning.
But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. While this feature is promising, initial reviews suggest Copilot may not be as seamlessly integrated as users would like. Complaints about poor performance and occasional misunderstandings in the interpretation of user intent indicate that there are some bugs Microsoft needs to fix for this groundbreaking feature.
The update also brings a modernized elegant File Explorer interface designed with WinUI and supported by the Windows Application SDK. This new interface aims to make navigating your computer easier and more intuitive than ever before.
The Carousel shows recommended files for Azure Active Directory (AAD) users, while Quick Access folders and recent sections have received aesthetic updates. For OneDrive users, sync status and quota popups are now integrated into the address bar, making it easier to manage your cloud storage.
Microsoft is also adding an updated details panel that makes it easier to collaborate and access information about files without opening them. This feature aims to increase productivity while keeping the user experience smooth and efficient.
For those concerned about power consumption or battery life, Windows 11 update 23H2 includes a detailed power report feature. This provides real-time data on your device’s energy usage broken down from the last 24 hours to the last week.
Even more interesting is the “battery usage per app” feature, which allows users to monitor their per-app power consumption.
Users can select “Total Usage” for the entire image, or “In Use” and “Background” to distinguish between active and passive consumption. This new addition can be invaluable for those who want to maximize the performance of their device while minimizing power consumption. Source
