The Nintendo Switch 2 development kits have been in the hands of developers for some time now, and according to a recent leak from a very reliable source, we already have a first impression of the performance they are capable of offering. This resource ensures that development kits they are able to move Final Fantasy VII Remake almost as well as the PS5which tells us three important things.

The first is that the Nintendo Switch 2 could happen one of the most powerful portable consoles in history, and that it would bring important improvements at the hardware level compared to the current version. Second, the fact that Final Fantasy VII Remake is being referenced suggests that the development of this title may take some time for Nintendo’s new console, and maybe it’s a toss up game.

Finally, it should be remembered that the mentioned game uses dynamic resolution on PS5 to reach 60 FPS, so the most normal thing would be that its adaptation to Nintendo Switch 2 use DLSS to scale and improve performance. It is this technology that could be one of the strong points of the new big console N, provided that the use of NVIDIA GPUs is confirmed.

This matches, broadly speaking, the latest information we’ve seen that said the Nintendo Switch 2 was going for a position above the PS4 and Xbox One in terms of performance, although of course it would not reach the level of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This is obvious, since it is a portable console, the internal space is very limited and it is not possible to use high-power components due to the heat they generate.

I remind you that according to the latest and most reliable leaks, the Nintendo Switch 2 could be configured with a custom NVIDIA Tegra SoC, which would have an 8-core Cortex-A78 processor and an Ampere GPU with 1,792 to 2,048 shaders. Said GPU would have 2nd generation RT cores and 3rd generation tensor cores, which means it could speed up ray tracing and support DLSS Super Resolution.

The rest of its specifications would be supplemented 16 GB LPDDR5X memory to achieve high bandwidth, key to minimizing its GPU bottleneck, and could have at least 128 GB of storage capacity in its basic version, although a larger capacity is not ruled out. If all goes well, the launch of this new console should take place sometime in 2024.
