Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries announced that the delayed launch of the H2A launch vehicle, along with the Japan Space Agency’s lunar lander, is scheduled for Thursday (September 7th).

This was reported by Kyodo, as reported by Ukrinform.

The company said the H2A vehicle is scheduled to launch around 8:40 a.m. from the space center on Tanegashima Island in southwestern Kagoshima Prefecture.

The rocket’s payload will also include the SLIM lunar landing module developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, which will test point landing technology on the Earth satellite’s surface.

SLIM is expected to enter lunar orbit three to four months after launch and attempt to reach its surface four to six months later.

The data Japan collects from the moon will be used in the US-led Artemis project, which aims to return humans to the moon by 2025 and advance lunar exploration. Experience gained on Earth’s moon will help humanity in Mars exploration.

The rocket was scheduled to launch a week earlier, but was canceled about 30 minutes before the scheduled launch due to strong winds.

If successful, Japan will become the fifth country to land a lunar rover on Earth’s satellite, after the United States, China, India and the former Soviet Union.

As reported by Ukrinform, India has put the Pragyan lunar rover, the first device to reach the Moon’s South Pole, into sleep mode after completing a two-week experimental period on the Earth satellite.

The payload is turned off and the solar panel is oriented to light at the next sunrise expected on September 22, when the rover will activate and return to Moon exploration.
