Xiaomi users report finding browser hijacking malware on their phones

Xiaomi users are making conflicting claims about the company’s smartphones. According to these users, their Xiaomi smartphones are loaded with malware called Mintnav, which allegedly hacks the Chrome browser.

There was no news on how this malware could affect smartphones. The user who first reported this on Reddit writes:

Hello Friends, Recently on all my Xiaomi phones, I saw that my home page in Google Chrome was changed to a site called “Mintnav”. Be careful when changing this, I couldn’t find any documentation about this site so I think it’s a scam (something I’ve found done by Xiaomi many times)

Several Twitter/X users also complained about it after hearing the news, and one even tagged India’s Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology.

When we tried to gather more information about this alleged malware, we encountered a lack of comprehensive details. on an education site How to uninstall Guide “Mintnav falls into the category of browser hijacking, and while it doesn’t do much damage directly, it can certainly be a source of serious annoyance and interrupt your daily web browsing activities.”

While users’ concerns are valid, it is unclear how this unknown program reached Xiaomi phones. We haven’t heard any complaints about Mintnav from users of other brands, so it’s possible that Xiaomi is somehow involved. This alleged malware may have appeared on Xiaomi smartphones after an update.

If you get this malware on your Chrome browser, you can remove it by going to the Chrome settings at the bottom of the Home page and turning this option off or changing it to the default Chrome home page.
