Caribbean Astronomical Society (SAC), based in Puerto Ricoreported this Thursday that a SpaceX satellite launched into space on July 28 had disintegrated on the island.
As SAC science communicator Eddie Irizarri explains in a statement, Starlink 30167 satellite has broken up from 19:25 to 19:26 on Wednesday, missing its intended orbit, spewing space debris and visible from the entire island.

Irizarri added that the satellite showed a slow and noticeable disintegration, moving along a trajectory from the southwest to the northeast of the island.
In turn, SAC Vice President Nelson Ortega noted that the organization received reports from citizens that they saw space debris in the municipalities of Comerio, Isabela, Cabo Rojo and a number of other cities.
SAC has also indicated that it is a “2 mini” version of the satellite, which is 100 feet wide with the solar panels deployed.
The organization stressed that this is not the first time. satellites disintegrated in the skies over Puerto Rico, as another, even more impressive sighting was observed on the island on February 7, 2022, when several such vehicles disintegrated in the atmosphere.
