Asus closes dangerous security gaps in three routers

A critical vulnerability affects three Asus routers. The manufacturer is therefore releasing an important firmware update that is supposed to lock everything again.

Three Asus routers are vulnerable to flaws that attackers can exploit to gain access to the devices. They can then run their own code or simply disable connectivity. The following routers are affected:

  • Asus RT-AX55
  • Asus RT-AX56U
  • Asus RT-AC86U

The vulnerabilities in the service are CVE-2023-39238, CVE-2023-39238 and CVE-2023-39238. With a CVSS score of 9.8 out of a maximum of ten, all three can be described as critical. If you don’t patch your router, you’re actually inviting attackers into the network. From there, other devices are vulnerable and criminals can do this the man in the middleSet up attacks to redirect you to fraudulent websites without your knowledge.

Luckily, Asus has a patch ready. Implementation must be an absolute priority. To do this, browse to your router, log in as an administrator and navigate to Firmware upgrade. There you can manually search for a new version. It’s also a good idea to turn on auto-update.

This is not the first time that Asus routers have been vulnerable due to a dangerous bug. Almost three months ago, owners of Asus hardware also had to patch in a hurry.
