According to the seismic hazard bulletin published by the Moroccan National Institute of Geophysics, The earthquake occurred at 23:11 local time (00:11 GMT on Saturday).
Its epicenter was in the city of Isis, located 63 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakech. at a depth of 8 kilometers, the bulletin states.

According to witnesses contacted by EFE, the tremors were felt in northern cities such as Larache, 550 kilometers from the epicenter, and in Casablanca and Rabat, 300 and 370 kilometers respectively, where Its residents took to the streets to prevent a possible second earthquake.
Sofia Catala, a Spanish woman living in the center of Marrakech, explained to EFE that during the earthquake, “the ground began to move, as if it were being bombed.” “I thought the building was collapsing, and now everyone is outside in their pajamas.”he added.
A few minutes after the earthquake, Katala reported from the street that, given the shaking, all the neighbors of his house came out and that railings and other objects fell from the balconies, but added that she did not see any buildings around her with significant damage.
