Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp has been constantly evolving with recent updates focusing on improving the UI/UX and adding much-awaited features. The latest update available through the Google Play beta program, version 2.23.19.7, brings an exciting development: chat filters.
Improved chat management with filters
According to WABetaInfo, this new feature is designed to give users more control over their conversations by making it easier to manage and prioritize messages. Although it’s still in development, the latest beta update offers a glimpse of some major improvements.
The new filter allows users to list group chats while excluding individual conversations. To improve clarity and distinction, the Personal filter has been renamed to Contacts to include only individual chats. Notably, the Job filter has been removed in this update.
There’s now a dedicated Groups tab filter, which is a welcome change and acknowledges long-standing user requests for an easier way to manage and organize group chats within the app. Many people are part of more than one group for work, family, friends or hobbies, and this filter promises faster access and better organization.
This feature is currently available to a limited group of WhatsApp beta testers, but is expected to be rolled out to a wider audience soon once it is developed and refined.
Apart from chat filters, WhatsApp is also actively working on other features such as email verification and the ability to hide IP addresses during calls. Additionally, in the latest beta version, users can now respond to WhatsApp status updates using avatars, further expanding the app’s features.
