The first laptops with the more efficient Apple M3 chip on board would not see the light of day until 2024.
Following an earlier rumor from Bloomberg analyst and Apple insider Mark Gurman that the first Mac devices with an Apple M3 chip would be released this year, another notorious Apple insider, Ming-Chi Kuo, clarifies this not about MacBooks go.
Kuo assumes that the renewal of the MacBook range to the new Apple M3 chips will only begin next year. This still leaves room for possible Mac devices such as the Mac Mini or the iMac. The latter hasn’t received an update for a long time and was also one of the first with the latest Apple M1 chip when it debuted.
The Apple M3 chip is the first chip to use the 3-nanometer process. Apple has bought almost all of the production capacity of chip maker TSMC. A smaller process ensures more efficient operation, which improves battery life. At the same time, there is scope for better performance.
Last year, Apple also skipped the October event to unveil the new MacBooks in favor of releasing the devices later in January. This year it could follow the same rhythm again.
Both Kuo and Gurman are often close to the truth, but ultimately it is Apple that has the monopoly on the truth. Therefore, take the above message with a grain of salt. Maybe Apple will give us a glimpse into the secret tomorrow during the iPhone event?
