Canadian company Telesat announced Monday that it has signed an agreement with SpaceX to launch a group of Lightspeed satellites into low Earth orbit starting in 2026.

This was reported by Reuters, as reported by Ukrinform.

Because Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites operate 36 times closer to Earth than traditional satellites, it takes less time to send and receive information. This provides better and faster broadband even in remote areas.

The cost of the contract, which will cover 14 launches, was not disclosed.

Each SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch up to 18 satellites into orbit, allowing these satellites to be deployed by the end of 2027, when Telesat plans to offer global services. However, the company said that distribution of the devices was initially planned for 2024.

It is emphasized that Telesat has moved into a new field of LEO networks to serve corporate customers, including mobile operators, governments, aviation and shipping companies.

As Ukrinform reports, on Saturday, September 9, the American company SpaceX launched a new batch of 22 Starlink internet satellites into orbit.
