On May 9, South Korea successfully conducted a test of a heavy torpedo “Tiger Shark” in the Sea of Japan. This was reported by the Republic of Korea State Office for the Quality of Defense Technology.
The projectile was launched from a submarine of the “Chan Bogo – 3” class. The purpose of the tests was to test the operation of these weapons before mass production. The torpedo was developed in 2019. Preliminary audits were carried out in March this year.
“These tests are very important because they confirmed the quality of the heavy torpedo of South Korea’s development,” said Chan Bon Gee, head of the Center for Controlled Weapons Systems.
It is noted that South Korea is pushing the development of ballistic missile submarine technology in the DPRK to improve its navy.
