OPPO has applied for trademarks for ‘AndesGPT’ and ‘AndesAI’ for its new AI Assistant

Oppo announced in August that it would launch an extensive experiment with the new version of Xiaobu Assistant, built on the company’s wide language model AndesGPT. The company has currently filed to register various “AndesGPT” and “AndesAI” trademarks with the International Classification of Scientific Instruments, Communication Services and Websites. The current status of the trademark is pending.

AndesGPT is a generative large language model (LLM) developed by the OPPO Andes Smart Cloud team. Two years ago, the team began researching and applying pre-trained language models and independently developed large OBERT models with 100 million, 300 million and 1 billion parameters. OBERT ranked fifth in the overall list of the CLUE1.1 Chinese Comprehension Assessment Test and first in the KgCLUE1.0 question and answer ranking in the large-scale knowledge graph.

OPPO explained that AndesGPT’s OBERT model is based on learning experience and integrates core technologies such as continuous learning of Chinese dialogue data, fine-tuning of instructions, reinforcement learning with human feedback, and knowledge enhancement. In June this year, it ranked first in the C-Eval rating.

The use of trademarks AndesGPT and AndesAI indicates that OPPO is planning to make a big entry into the AI assistant market. It will be interesting to see how OPPO’s new Xiaobu assistant performs in the market. If it can deliver an engaging user experience, it could become a major player in the AI assistant space.

In addition to applying for trademarks, OPPO is also taking other steps to strengthen its AI capabilities. In April, the company announced a partnership with Alibaba Cloud to jointly develop AI technologies. This will allow OPPO, which recently shut down its chip business, to develop more complex AI-based features for its smartphones.
