Colonel Ivan Pavlenko, head of the Main Directorate of Radio-Electronic Warfare and Cybersecurity of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, advises Ukrainians not to use the Telegram social network.
He gave information about this in an interview “Ukrainian reality,” Ukrinform reports.
“Let me tell you clearly: there should be nothing on the phone other than the phone book. Telegram is not physically present on my phone. If we communicate, we use Signal, maybe WhatsApp. In any case, the information transmitted there must be fragmented, if you do not know its essence, you cannot put it together,” he said .
Pavlenko noted that, in general, negotiations on serious official issues are not held over the phone.
The head of the Department of Electronic Communications advises people to never accept a phone as a gift.
“Go to the store and it is better to send someone nearby to buy the first best product that is not intended for you,” the soldier advises.
Answering the question, he said that the Russians had tried to gain remote access to his smartphone twice since 2014, in the Avdiyivka region and in the Krasnohorivka region.
“It looked like this. My phone was working, then suddenly its battery drops to zero, I charge it but it shows 0% battery again. I turn it off completely for a certain period of time, turn it on, and it shows me that the charge is 100%,” said the head of the EW department.
According to him, a sharp drop in charge is an indication that there is a problem with the phone.
“It’s a force to reboot the phone. When you reboot, a bookmark appears on the phone that gives you access to all the files,” the soldier explained.
He said that he had to replace the phone twice, because no expert can give a person a 100% guarantee that the phone is clean. “The most reliable way is to isolate yourself from this IMEI and number,” Pavlenko said.
Answering the question, the Chief of the Electronic Warfare Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that turning on the “aviation” mode on the phone while remaining close to “zero” in the combat zone is a very relevant and important moment. .
“For example, the Russians have a Layer 3 system that creates a deceptive base station and can detect phones in some areas and send messages. It cannot listen to your conversations, but it can detect the location of the phone. The density of phones is a big threat. The military officer said, “We understand that there are no meetings other than military personnel in hostile areas ” said.
He reported that in 2014, there were many casualties in Ukraine due to mobile phone use, especially in war zones. “So of course you need to turn off your phones so they can’t track you,” Pavlenko advises.
As reported, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine told citizens about alternative ways to communicate between subscribers and call emergency services in case of lack of mobile communications.
